Today’s episode is all about what, and how, to measure your Digital Marketing. I’m joined by Chris Mercer, the Co-founder of Mercer (as he’s known) is a sought after measurement marketing expert and has been helping marketers, marketing teams, and agencies know, trust, and grow their numbers.

It is so important for all businesses, especially SMEs, to know their numbers and how they’re getting results. Most people don’t fully understand this, but once you understand it, you will have more clarity. You can then start to plan ahead and be more certain of what’s going to happen.

What and How to Measure Your Digital Marketing

Tools such as Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager are hugely powerful when it comes to measuring your marketing. With all this power, comes a lot of complexity. When you’re not 100% sure where to gather the right information, it can be a real challenge. It’s worth investing some time so that you understand the basics and have them set up for use.

We go on to speak about using the source medium report in Google Analytics as this has everything you need right away all in one report. When you learn this one report and understand how to use it to tell a story, the rest of the platform should be a lot easier to navigate.

All our marketing efforts should be objective-driven. You need to make sure that you’ve got a goal in mind. You should only be sending traffic to your site with a purpose in mind. You need to be able to measure it if it’s achieving its purpose. This enables you to see the process and understand where you need to adjust what you’re doing if it’s not going to plan. Without knowing this data, you don’t know what is and what isn’t working.
